Full House in Saxony House
2000 guests witness the Olympic Opening Ceremony in Saxony House
Vancouver, February 13th 2010 - Saxony House has opened: Over 2000 guests from Vancouver and Germany witnessed the opening in Saxony House on Saturday evening. Thus, the Vancouver Rowing Club was extremely well visited on the first day.
Just before the opening of the Vancouver Rowing Club as presentation site of the Free State Saxony in the Canadian metropolis, the Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen ceremoniously raised the Saxon flag and with that signaled the official takeover by Saxony. Shortly afterwards, the first visitors were received. At 6 p.m. sharp, Ambassador Sylke Otto declared Saxony House officially open. Full of enthusiasm they relished the Wernesgrüner beer, fried sausage with sauerkraut and Bautzen mustard as well as "Speckfettbemmen" (a Saxon dish consisting of wholemeal or brown bread spread with a spiced sort of fat). More than 1500 sausages, several hundred steaks and 35 kegs of beer à 50 liters, that's 1750 liters, were handed out.
With Saxon live music by De Erbschleicher and sounds from the 70s and 80s as well as hottest house music by DJ Ron Spank from Dresden the party went on until 2 o'clock in the morning. Moreover, free access to the House in the Vancouver Rowing Club made sure that the queue in front of Saxony House did not disperse for several hours despite the rain.
