Medals in abundance in Saxony House

Vancouver/Dresden, February 20 2010 - Torsten Wustlich, André Florschütz and Anke Wischnewski are the winners in Saxony House: After a warm welcome from the fans and guests in Saxony House as well as the hosts, the three were awarded with a medal of honor by chief Hans-Jürgen Goller and ambassador Sylke Otto. This commemorative medal shows Saxony House and the flags of Canada and Saxony and symbolizes that in Saxony House everybody who participated in Olympia is a winner. The Olympic luge champion, Tatjana Hüfner, brought her own medal, the gold medal. She was received by hundreds of guests with thundering applause, loud cheers and an affectionate hail of catcalls. The athletes as well as the national coach congratulated the initiators of Saxony House on a successful concept and were quite taken with the magnificent atmosphere. Also Saxony's Prime Minister, Stanislaw Tillich, and the director of the State Art Collections Dresden, Professor Martin Roth, took the opportunity of their official visit to Saxony House for the signing of the contract for a cooperation agreement with the U’mista Cultural Centre in Alert Bay (Vancouver Island) to greet the house guests.

"With the well-known Rowing Club, the oldest club of the city, the TMGS found an excellent shelter for our Saxony House. I am convinced that it will be an attractive and popular meeting place for the locals and all participants and visitors of the Olympic Games. While they are enjoying culinary tidbits from the Free State and a great view on the skyline of Vancouver, we can present Saxony in its athletic, economic, cultural and touristic variety ", said Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich.

By now the fans accept two hours waiting time, even at half past twelve in the night, hoping for admittance in order to be there until the end at two o'clock and enjoy the program, prominent guests, freshly tapped Wernesgrüner beer as well as the highly praised, traditional Saxon fried sausage. While more and more visitors turn up, the elk mascot has disappeared. TMGS managing director Hans-Jürgen Goller suspects Saxel to be out in the Canadian woods trying to breed. In the coming days 300 miniature elks are being expected in Saxony House as souvenirs.
